Leaders & Luminaries, Edition 5, October 2022
Editor's Note:
At first glance, the cover image of Edition 5 of Leaders & Luminaries resembles computed tomography (CT) machine used for diagnostic imaging in radiology but equipped with rope lighting and neon used to accessorize and dress up the undercarriage and wheel wells of cars and trucks today. Actually, however, the motivation behind this selected image was the "Star Trek" television episode "The City on the Edge of Forever," (Season 1, Episode 28, original airdate, April 6, 1967) in which the main characters in the futuristic world jumped through a device like this to travel through time in the past. If you look it up online, in that episode, the ring-like dimensional portal on the planet wasn't nearly as precisely shaped, nor as brilliantly alit, but sparkling in its own way. In this image, we saw the definition of shape and lighting as something that indicated definitive direction, efficiency, organization and utility — all criteria necessary for a world nearly two decades past a global pandemic and supply chain disarray.
